KC and the Sunshine Band: “I’m Your Boogie Man” (1976)
Jeremy’s bedroom, spring of 1988
It didn’t take long for Jeremy to develop his own musical tastes. We were particularly fond of KC and the Sunshine Band: “I’m Your Boogie Man,” “Shake, Shake, Shake Your Bootie,” disco music ca. 1976.
I remember us buying him a Kiss album. Every kid that age needed a Kiss album.
He was heavily into Boston for a spell.
One time, I bought him a Nina Hagen record.
At different times, he gave me albums by the Eagles: The Long Run; Steve Reich: Early Works; an early Bob Marley album; the Modern Jazz Quartet: Final Concert.
We listened together to ….. Billy Joel, Huey Lewis, Bob Seger, Joe Cocker, the Commodores. Blondie, the Blasters, X. Esther and I to Lionel Ritchie: “Hello” and “All Night Long.”
J. went to concerts. The one I remember is UB-40. He says he didn’t like them but my memory is that he did at the time. By the time he went off to France and then college, he’d been to a lot of concerts and heard lots of groups. He was heavily into Joy Division and Sonic Youth, I remember.
